Good day everyone! Since my laptop is in great condition despite being old (ha) and the internet connection is pretty stable, I’d like to share the lyric of Ashikubi’s last song in album ‘Trope’.

KARAN to Naku (カランと鳴く)‘ is a completely new song, composed and written by 164 and sung by Ashikubi. ‘Karan’ here means ‘water faucet’, and ‘Naku’ here means ‘cry, sound, or echo..’ so I guess romanisation of the title would be ‘Water Faucet and Echo’… probably, haha. Since I’m not sure, I won’t put it in the romanisation table.

The melody is pretty calming in the beginning – calming and quiet, like some kind of reflective verses… and then carefully becoming dark (my impression of it) and suddenly louder as if desperate.

Looking at the lyric, more or less it tells us about a person who lost their loved ones and they are desperately living on while at the same time, still cannot move on. They wondering aimlessly inside the room just to search for their lover’s trace. When the night comes, they cannot sleep without counting each memory of their moments together… When morning comes, they look for their smartphone, only to stare at their picture together. ‘Please tell me the reason why these tears flow out’. Yep. Cannot move on.

However, whether the partner is dead or they are simply break up or something along the line is unknown. I guess they broke up because he/she makes a mistake to their loved ones. I conclude that from this line: ‘ここで独り 何を償えば? 何も捨てられないのに?’ which means ‘I am here alone, it is to make up for what? even though I cannot let go’.

Disclaimer: I do not own this song. Yep, seriously not.

Romanisation

Sotto iki wo suikonda imi mo naku
Dare mo inai heya wo UROURO-shite wa
Tada kimi ga ita ato wo sagashiteita
Motto hanashitai koto ga iroiro aru nda
Mata hairpin (HEAPIN) ga hitotsu bed (BEDDO) no sumi ni ochiteita
Kienai kioku wo kazoete nemuru yo!
Nagarenai namida no riyuu wo oshiete
Mou anna ni afureteita noni karete tsukihate ta
Mada akenai yoru nado mou owari ni shiyou
Sono toki made.
Choudo me ga sameta asa ni hiraita
Smartphone (SUMAHO) ni utsutta waraigao futatsu
Naze da ka zutto mitsumeteita…
Kienai kioku wo katasumi ni shimaikonde wa
Ienai kizuguchi wo nazotte nemuru yo
Koko de hitori, nani wo tsugunaeba?
Nani mo suterarenai noni?
Nagarenai namida no riyuu wo oshiete
Mou anna ni afureteita noni karete tsukihate ta!
Waraenai hanashi wa mou owari ni shiyou
Mata au hi made.

List of Mistake in Romanising:

  1. [映った] -> kasutta = utsutta

  2. Jisho, so I know more or less the meaning of the lyric 🙂
